An 18-year-old kid named P.J. Wanderscheid made history many ways at the 39th annual Eagle River World Championship Snowmobile Derby, and Snow Week was there to capture the action. The then relatively unknown racer from Sauk Centre, Minnesota, said after the race, “I didn’t expect to qualify, I just came out here to see what I could do.” What he did was guide his Arctic Cat to victory as a rookie while some of the sport’s top competitors crashed around him. In doing so, he became the first guy to win on an Arctic Cat since Jim Dimmerman’s 1984 victory. It was also Wanderscheid’s first of four World titles. Wait: There’s more. The same issue features X Games coverage, where Blair Morgan repeated in Snocross while his teammate did the same in Hillcross. That and a whole lot more are packed in this collectable issue.
